KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Around two hundred people came out Saturday to the Tri-Cities Walk to Defeat ALS at Columbia Park in Kennewick.
The fifth annual walk, held by the ALS Association's local chapter, raises money for ALS services.
All of the money raised stays here locally for people with the disease. Some of the free services they provide are equipment loans, educational resources and home health visits.
The care coordinator for the local chapter, Lisa Schoonover, says the money from this walk really helps.
"It helps if they were to call me and say, 'Lisa, we need a power wheelchair. It's going to take me three months to get a prescription from a doctor. Do you happen to have one in your loan locker?'" That money helps us to be able to have those wheelchairs and lend them out at no cost," says Schoonover.
One hundred sixty-five walks happen across the U.S. and since 2000 they have raised one hundred thirty-seven million dollars.
