Teenager murdered in Toppenish

TOPPENISH, Wash.-- Police in Toppenish are investigating the murder of a teenage boy. The 15-year-old was shot in the head Wednesday night and later died from his injuries at the hospital.

It started a little after 6pm Wednesday evening when police say 15-year-old Jose Rodriguez was walking along the 700 block of Madison Avenue with two friends when they were approached by a white pick-up truck. Inside, four men all wearing red.

Police say three of them got out of the truck and chased Rodriguez into a nearby alley when one of the suspects shot him in the head.

The other two victims, a 16-year-old and an unidentified man were able to escape, but police say they're having a hard time getting information from them.

"They're not being super cooperative. We do have some other leads that we're following up on and then we ended up getting a hold of the other victim today and he's not being cooperative," said Capt. Curtis Ruggles with Toppenish PD.

Rodriguez was taken to a local hospital Wednesday, before being flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

He was pronounced dead just after 10am Thursday morning.

Police say they do have a person of interest who they're looking for in connection with this murder. But they do believe it was gang related.
