PASCO, Wash.- A Franklin County jury has begun looking at evidence and hearing testimony in the trial of a man accused of trying to murder his mother-in-law.
In opening statements, prosecutor Shawn Sant told jurors in February 2011 Judy Hebert opened her heart and home to her daughter Tashia Stuart and her and son-in-law Todd Stuart, who Sant says then plotted to murder the Pasco woman.
But defense attorney Jeffrey Robinson says evidence will prove Tashia Stuart acted alone.
Tashia Stuart claims she shot her adoptive mother in self-defense when Hebert came at her with an ax.
Prosecutors say a month earlier the couple tried to kill Hebert by luring her into her garage and pushed a heavy bin on top of her.
Tashia Stuart goes on trial for murder next month.
