YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Walmart and KNDU/KNDO School Supply Drive was supposed to wrap up this week but we've extended it.
It now ends next weekend. The end of the drive was pushed back so workers could collect more money and supplies. Ten stores from the Yakima Valley to the Columbia Basin and Oregon are participating. They've collected over $19,000 so far. Walmart hopes people continue to give generously next week.
"We encourage all of our customers to recognize the need that's in our community... Lets help see how much we can help out these local communities with the kids that we know are in need out there," says Nob Hill Boulevard Store Manager Joe Smith.
You can make a money donation at the cash register of any participating Walmart. You can also buy a pre-packaged supply bag. All donations stay local and go directly to nearby school districts.
