YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Humane Society of Central Washington says they've seen a huge increase in adoptions over the past month as they compete for $100,000 grant.
So far, they've rescued more than 400 animals compared to 275 last year.
To win the grant the organization has to save the lives of at least 1,700 pets by the end of October. Right now, they're doing a promotion for cats where adoption fees are only five dollars.
"We know that there are people that would love to adopt and maybe right now it's not financially possible to pay the full fee, and so we want to offer some incentives and we know that those are loving homes," says Erica Seaver-Engel with the Humane Society.
If you're interested in adopting a pet from the Humane Society, they're located on 2405 West Birchfield Road.
