PASCO, Wash. --"She always wanted to give give give." That is how Kai Phengsavanh describes her five year old daughter Kindra who would have been stating kindergarten at Maya Angelou in Pasco in two weeks.
Instead, her family has been grieving the loss of Kindra for the last four months after an unexpected battle with Pneumonia. "KMP Foundation was formed because my daughter passed away on April 29th this year, and her goal and mission in life was to help the less fortunate," says her mother. I
The Phengsvanh family has been planning a trip to Laos for next summer with all four kids. "' Kindra wanted to travel to Laos. She was adamant about it and help out in the orphanage, to feed the kids, to help the less fortunate families," she says.
But now, instead of succumbing to their grief, the family has opted to do good in their daughter's name. It started with a simple project, making homemade egg-rolls. "Kindra loved egg rolls and we used to cook together all the time," she says. So Kai started cooking in her Pasco kitchen and selling the fresh and frozen egg rolls at $8 a dozen.
"We have chicken, beef, pork, veggie, turkey, and we deliver," she says. It's been going so well, the KMP Foundation has already raised $5,000 dollars. They are half way to their goal. "The plan is to raise $10,000 because we have a proposal of building a school in Kindra's name in Laos," she says of the three room school they hope to begin construction on in January.
This weekend marks 100 days since Kindra's passing. Her family is Buddhist and will have the Monks over to bless their daughter's favorite things. Afterwards, they'll donate them to a local child in need. And because this would have been Kindra's first day of school, her mother thinks it's very important to help another little girl starting kindergarten, especially since things are so expensive in this day and age.
"I want to take this child shopping. I'd like her to send me an essay on why she thinks she deserves this shopping trip. Its going to entail of everything she needs for school like school supplies, books, back packs, shoes, clothes and all that stuff," says Kai Phengsavanh.
