Idaho head football coach Robb Akey announced the final piece of his coaching staff on Thursday with the addition of running backs coach Wayne Moses, a veteran position coach with several high-profile stops.

Moses officially joined the Vandal staff on Wednesday, Aug. 1, and comes to the Vandals after most recently a four-year stint at UCLA as running backs coach. He had 32 years of college coaching experience and two more in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams from 2006-07.

His notable career stops include UCLA, Stanford, Pittsburgh, USC, Washington and Cal in the last 15 years. He was part of a coaching staff at Pitt that won the 2004 Big East Championship and advanced to the first BCS bowl in program history. While at Washington, he helped lead the Huskies to 2000 Pac-10 title, Rose Bowl victory and a No. 3 final ranking. He was on staff with UCLA when the Bruins advanced to the 1994 Rose Bowl.

In his extensive West Coast coaching and recruiting experience, Moses said he and Akey first met in competition with each other, both in games and recruiting, and that they built a friendship based on their time working against each other.

"We always were friendly and I got to know him and vice-versa," Moses said. "Consequently, the situation came up here and he asked me to join up, and I'm awfully glad he did."

Moses began his coaching career in 1978 at Cal State Fullerton as a graduate assistant working with defensive backs. He went on to Chaffey Junior College as running backs coach in 1979, then to North Carolina State in 1980 as defensive backs coach.

He served as running backs coach at Bowling Green for three years, Rutgers for two years and San Diego State for three years. He also served as a coaching intern over three summers with the Raiders, Seahawks and Broncos of the NFL.

Moses was a four-year letterman at Washington and was a starting cornerback for two years as a junior and senior. As a senior, he helped lead the Huskies to a Pac-8 title, a 27-20 Rose Bowl victory over Michigan and a No. 10 final Associated Press ranking.

Moses takes over Idaho's vacant running back coach position left when former running backs coach Jason Gesser was promoted to offensive coordinator in the spring.
