BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Fire crews believe a lightning strike sparked a brush fire near Benton City Thursday night. The fire started just after 6pm, burning 400 acres near Webber Canyon Road and Dennis Road.
Benton County Fire District 2 Captain Scott Hawley says the fire is 100% contained.
"We had a storm cell come through, thunderstorm we believe the fire was started by a lightning strike. We established it was about 400 acres total," says Hawley.
Benton County firefighters from districts 1, 2, 4 and 5 assisted in putting out the wildfire, preventing it from spreading to the nearby homes.
