OKANOGAN, Wash. –A man will spend a week in jail for baiting bears with doughnuts.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife says James Erickson, 52, admitted that he would use doughnuts and food scraps to draw bears close to his cabin near Winthrop. Officer Dan Christensen says Erickson, members of his family, and friends would then shoot the bears from chairs off the back of the cabin.

 Erickson, 52, pleaded guilty to bear baiting. A judge sentenced him to six days in jail.
