PASCO, Wash. -- It's easy to forget about school supplies in the midst of our recent heat wave, but now is the time to help students in need.
NBC Right Now has teamed up with Wal-Mart for the fourth annual "Back to School Supply Drive."
Donation drives are underway at Wal-Mart stores throughout the Yakima Valley, Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, and northeast Oregon. The event kicked off earlier this month, but donations have been slow.
Pasco store manager Alisha Jones says the donations make a big impact on the kids,"it's very exciting for them, it's like Christmas."
Jones adds people have donated items for children as well as teachers.
If you want to help out, you can drop off a donation at the store, or buy a pre-made supply bag. All items donated will go to children in schools where the supplies are collected.
The donation drive wraps up at the end of August.
