Zillah, WASH.--The world's largest privately owned winery has recently purchased two Washington brands, Columbia Winery and Covey Run Wine.
E & J Gallo Winery, which is based in Modesto, California, is a powerhouse in the wine business, and will help give Yakima Valley winemakers some national recognition.
Gail Puryear, the owner of Bonair Winery in Zillah, said, "We have an identity crisis in this state. Most people think of wet Seattle, and how do they grow grapes in wet Seattle. And I think Gallo will get the message out that this is really a good place to grow grapes."
Gallo's strong marketing presence will easily introduce Washington brands into neighboring states, widening distribution for local wineries.
