Commercial Truckers save money with special weigh stations

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Many commercial truckers in Washington State are saving time and money when they pass through certain weigh stations.

The Washington State Department of Transportation estimates their commercial vehicle information systems networks saved truck drivers over $12 million last year.

The technology automatically calls up information on a truck's weight, credentials, and safety rating.

It then gives them a green light if it all checks out.

The DOT says only 39 percent of truckers had the technology installed but that number has grown every year.
