YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Police Department is looking possibly expanding the city jail as a way to cut costs.
The city council voted Monday to give the department $15,000 to start a feasibility study. Right now the jail holds 78 inmates, any more than that have to be sent to the county jail. The city pays over two million dollars a year to keep them there.
Police say the expansion is just one proposal. They'll decide to go forward with it or look into others when the study is finished.
