YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Dairy Farmers of Washington sponsored a food and cash drive Saturday to benefit Northwest Harvest.
The event took place at Fred Meyer on 40th Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. After four hours, the farmers collected over $1,100 in cash and over 600 pounds of food.
Genny DeRuyter, the Commissioner for Washington Dairy Products said, "There's a constant need. It's just not today or tomorrow but it's continual at the local food banks. So we really encourage people to support them and help their neighbors and demonstrate their community spirit."
All donors walked away with a reusable shopping bag and a recipe book.
