PASCO, Wash. -- President Obama recently issued an executive order to not deport certain young illegal immigrants that present a low security risk.
In the executive order, people eligible must be under 30, have lived in the country for five consecutive years, came here before they were 16, and currently be enrolled in school or served the armed forces.
Some Latino leaders we talked to say it's a step in the right direction, but there's more work to do.
"It's not a solution, but it's definitely a step in the right direction," explains Jazmin Santacruz of One America.
It's a feeling Martin Valadez, president of the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce agrees with. He says despite the good news, young Latino's shouldn't celebrate too soon,"the applicants are going to have to demonstrate and really they're going to have to earn this opportunity."
A public forum will be held next Monday night to discuss how this order may effect people as well as basic rights they need to know.
The meeting will be held at La Michoacano on Lewis Street in Pasco starting at 5:00 PM.
