Fire crews ready to help other states

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - The recent run of cool, rainy weather could free up Washington state fire crews to help fight wildfires burning across the West.

Bryan Flint of the Washington Department of Natural Resources says Washington hasn't received any requests for help from other states yet. But he says crews are ready to aid if other states seek help.

Wildfires in drought-plagued areas of New Mexico and Colorado have burned structures and forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents.
