Distracted driver cited after hitting officer's patrol car

Posted: Updated:

RIGBY, Idaho – When you read a text message while driving, you crash. When you crash, you crash into a car. When you crash into a car, it's a sheriff's deputy's patrol car.

Don't hit a sheriff's deputy patrol car.

Police say a 22-year-old Brian Anderson of Idaho was looking at a text message on his phone when he drove into the back of the patrol car parked on the side of the road.

The Jefferson County sheriff's deputy was not in the patrol car at the time. The vehicle's lights were flashing to alert drivers to a fire in the median of the road.

The officer cited Anderson for inattentive driving.
