YAKIMA, Wash. -- Tuesday SWX caught up with Eisenhower junior Kolney Cassel. Two weeks ago, the quarterback committed to Southern Methodist University. The junior checked out the SMU campus in March when he received his offer.
Last football season he was the Big Nine 4A Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Both Cassel and Davis quarterback Deion Wright passed Drew Bledsoe on the state 4A all-time single season passing average list. Cassel also considered Washington State University. Cassel talked about his college decision.
"Ever since I was about a freshman, I've always thought I wanted to make something out of a team. Like I don't want to go somewhere that's already good because I want to make them something special. That's always what I've wanted to do. I didn't really think I wanted to go anywhere else. I mean WSU is close but I'd rather be somewhere where I would fit and somewhere where they'd want me," Cassel said.
