Central Washington pole vaulter Kati Davis made it all the way to the NCAA D-II track and field championships in Pueblo, Colo. last week. Unfortunately, her poles didn't make it.

Davis used borrowed poles at the championships because the airline temporarily misplaced them. That was after she paid a $200 oversize baggage fee. Her coach drove to Denver to pick them up on the day of the competition, but got stuck in traffic and didn't make it back to Pueblo in time.

So Davis competed without her poles and without her coach. She didn't clear the required heights in three attempts.

At least the airline refunded her $200.
