TOPPENISH, Wash. - Officials at the new Yakama tribal jail in Toppenish say they plan to focus on rehabilitation. The new facility will include classrooms where inmates can study.
Corrections officers also say they jail will hold juvenile offenders who in the past would have been sent to Spokane.
24 new corrections officers will be hired to run the jail. A $15 million grant from the Justice Department paid for the jail, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs will cover daily operations.
