The Northwest Christian Chess Team claimed a trophy in the National Chess Championship in San Diego last month. The NWC Chess Team brought home the K-8 Under-1000 category trophy on the strength of four finishers. Torrey Casper scored 4.5 (from 7) to lead the team, which was made even more difficult by two of their stronger players having to play in higher sections.
The NWC Chess Team is coached by John Dill and Kelly King.
The Northwest Christian Chess Team was started by coach John Dill in January 2011 as the pilot for the Scholastic Chess Academy. Their goal is to have a chess program at over 200 elementary schools within the next seven years.
