Former Portland University VP gets probation

Posted: Updated:

PORTLAND, Ore. – A former state lawmaker and vice provost at Portland State University will spend the next year and a half on probation.

Mike Burton, 70, pleaded guilty Monday to official misconduct. Prosecutors say Burton claimed a $4,500 trip to Europe as a work expense.

Burton resigned under pressure last June from his job at Portland State University that paid $143,000 a year.

Voters elected Burton to the Oregon House in 1984. He represented north Portland for five terms.
