FCS Thinks About Expanding College Football Playoffs

Had the NCAA approved the current proposal to expand the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs last year, Eastern Washington probably would have made it to the big football dance.

So the FCS is taking about expanding.

It's not that Eastern's exclusion is behind the idea to expand the playoff from 20 teams to 24 in 2013. The Eagles would simply have benefited from the adjustment. What is really behind the proposal is sense of fairness.

The proposal set to go before the NCAA next month would give an automatic bid to all FCS conferences, seed the highest-ranked eight teams and give the top teams first-round byes and home games in the following round.

The proposal to include more teams in the FCS playoffs comes as the Football Bowl Subdivision teams are finally getting around to scrapping the Bowl Championship Series.
