Insurance company ranks Tri-Cities most secure mid size area

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Tri-Cities consistently ranks high on many lists when it comes to quality of life, and good places to live.

And the good news keeps coming.  This time, the area tops a list of the most secure mid-sized cities in the U.S.

Farmers insurance conducted the study last year looking at several factors that help to measure quality of life. They say the reason the Tri-Cities tops the list can be boiled down to one word, stability.

The company handles coverage for vehicles, property, and life insurance. They studied 400 communities across the country.

According to the study, several factors that impact insurance rates were examined, including crime stats, extreme weather, the housing market, and the number of accidents.

Insurance agents say the study's findings prove that quality of life is a big influence on what you pay for coverage.

"When you have a lot of claims with homeowners with the weather that effects your rates, and then with auto accidents if there's a lot of accidents or vandalism,"explains Farmer's Insurance Agent Liz Elder.

This is the sixth time the Tri-Cities ranked in the top 20 of the study. Some reasons why the area keeps making the list include high job creation low unemployment and stable housing development.

Back in 2005, the Tri-Cities also ranked number one for communities with 150,000 to 500,000 residents.

Farmers Insurance will honor Pasco, Richland, and Kennewick at their Insuring Your Safety Fair on May 15th at their Arrowhead Avenue office in Kennewick.
