Ryan Leaf remains in jail in Montana after a short plea hearing on Tuesday during which he admitted to breaking into a house and possessing prescription drugs.

As reported by Kimball Bennion of the Great Falls Tribune, Leaf agreed through a plea bargain to admit to burglary and drug charges in exchange for a five-year prison sentence and the requirement that he spend time in a drug treatment center. That sentence, to be formally handed out June 19, is non-binding and could change.

Leaf's attorney's asked that the $76,000 bond be reduced, but the judge refused, saying the former Washington State and NFL quarterback committed his second offense while he was already out on bond. Instead, he decided to keep him behind bars on $126,000 - the combined amounts between the cases Montana and Texas.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Former Washington State and NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has reached a plea agreement on drug and burglary charges in Montana.

The Great Falls Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/KJbIny ) Leaf's attorney, Kenneth Olson, requested a combined arraignment and change-of-plea hearing on charges that Leaf broke into two houses in his hometown and stole prescription painkillers. District Judge Kenneth Neill set the hearing for 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The details of the plea agreement had not been filed in District Court Monday afternoon. Cascade County Attorney John Parker declined to comment.

Leaf has been jailed since his second arrest in three days on April 2. He also faces possible prison time in Texas after officials there moved to revoke his probation from a 2010 plea agreement on similar accusations.
