WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sheriff's office says at 2:30 on Friday morning, police and sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary at the New York Store Western Outfitters on Isaacs Avenue.

Deputies say the front window of the store had been broken and a 22 year old Caesar Chavira Jr. was attempting to steal items from the store. Sheriff's deputies say the store owner confronted and shot Chavira, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say Chavira has a criminal history, and is a suspected gang member from the Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater area.

Walla Walla police believe the store owner lived at his place of business.

Police and deputies believe Chavira was working alone, and are continuing to investigate.
