Nationally proven music program combines private and group lessons with on stage performances to help student learn faster.

The School of Rock Wichita music school offers kids age 7-18 performance based music lessons. The "Rock 101" program offers beginners weekly 45 minute private lessons and a 1½ hour group rehearsal with other kids of their similar skill level. The goal of the "Rock 101" program is to prepare the student for a move up to the performance program.

The performance program offers the same weekly 45 minute private lesson but increases group rehearsal time to 3 hours each week. The students in this program are "cast" in a show at the beginning of each season. The rehearsals last all season and end with the group performing a live show at a Wichita music venue.

Each student is evaluated individually and challenged accordingly. This allows all skill levels an opportunity to improve their playing, have fun and stay motivated. The group rehearsals are key to helping kids learn and play faster than in traditional music lesson settings as it creates musical accountability that can’t be achieved from a parent or instructor. In addition, having band members counting on each other to know their parts motivates kids to practice more and builds team skills. “We don’t teach music to put on shows, we put on shows to teach music,” said Jason Ramsey, School of Rock Wichita general manager.

The best and brightest students will also have a chance to audition for the "house band." This group of kids becomes the face of the Wichita music school and plays at local events within the community. In order to be eligible for the house band the student must not only excel at playing, but also be a good citizen in the local Wichita community. This is the core of the School of Rock concept, “Inspiring kids to rock on stage, and in life.”
