CRESCENT LAKE, Ore. - Oregon State Police say 28-year-old Alberto Martinez was armed with a knife when he was holding his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Melody Mickel hostage in a cabin at Crescent Lake after kidnapping her.

When Martinez ended the standoff with police outside the cabin by walking out with Mickel as a human shield, he was shot by a SWAT team member, and treated at a Bend hospital for a superficial head wound.

Martinez was booked into the Deschutes County Jail for a parole violation. He now faces charges in both Klamath County and Umatilla County, where Mickel was taken.

Mickel was not harmed, and is now home safe.
