This event is part of Urban Rebound, an exciting national initiative funded by a grant from the Sam’s Club Giving Program designed to help women grow their small businesses quickly and sustainably to help spur economic and job growth. Additional Urban Rebound events will take place in Detroit, MI, and Charlotte, NC, in 2012. Through Count Me In’s proven mix of business coaching, confidence building, and access to a supportive community of women business owners, Urban Rebound aims to get 100 women-owned businesses from each of those regions currently at $50,000-100,000 in annual revenues to grow to $250,000+ within 12-18 months. That goal translates into $25 Million in new economic activity and 200-300 much needed new jobs in the US.
Women at Urban Rebound-Los Angeles can pitch their businesses to a panel of small business experts for a chance at 9 months of free business coaching and education with People Biz, Inc. All pitch winners named at the event will receive a free consultation with the business incorporation experts at eMinutes. Ten Pitch Winners, chosen in a random drawing, will also each receive a $1000 Jump Start cash prize to use for needed equipment, website improvements, marketing or other areas that can help their business grow.
In addition, participants will hear from some of the top women entrepreneurs and small business experts in the country including Ariela Balk, Founder and CEO of the Smart & Sexy apparel line, Nely Galán, Emmy Award-winning Latina media dynamo and Founder of the Adelante Movement, and Nell Merlino, Founder and President of Count Me In and the creative force behind Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

According to 2010 Census statistics, while women-owned businesses represented nearly 50% of privately held companies in the U.S., the majority of these businesses (75%) reach only $50,000 in annual gross revenues or less. At the same time, recent statistics from Wider Opportunities for Women, found that single parents require at least $57,756 in annual income to cover basic expenses for themselves and two children, while dual-income households with children require a minimum of $67,920.
California is home to the largest number of women-owned businesses (1,080,000) in the country, but ranks only 27th in terms of revenue growth for these businesses (58.9%) from 1997 to 2010, according to a recent report by American Express OPEN.
