JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - The U.S. Army is adding a layer of management to Joint Base Lewis-McChord as the installation recovers from a string of troubles.
The base will get a new division headquarters that will provide more oversight on the base.
Soldiers at the base have recently been linked to a series of violent incidents. One example, the four soldiers convicted in the deliberate thrill killings of three Afghan civilians in 2010. Another example, when another Lewis-McChord soldier was accused of killing 17 Afghan civilians earlier this year.
Officials at the base believe the new oversight will help the base maintain good order and discipline. The new structure will be activated in October.
