Man who ran over a little boy may face charges

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima police say a 5-year-old boy hit by a car over the weekend will recover from his injuries.

Preston Skelton-Benge was playing outside his apartment complex when he was hit Saturday.

The 41-year-old driver was backing up at the complex when he hit the boy.

The county prosecutor's office will now decide if they plan to pursue charges against the man.

"There's a possibility based on the evidence that we have and the information from the investigation that he may be looking at reckless driving, a charge of reckless driving rather," said Capt. Rod Light with YPD.

The boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken shoulder and a collapsed lung.

Police say he's expected to make a full recovery.
