Spokane Valley Fire Department Press Release:

This afternoon at 14:47 Units from the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at S. 415 Bowdish Ave (actual address is 417.) The fire was reported by neighbors across the street.  Sheriff Deputy Walker was very close to the incident and arrived first.  He opened the front doors and shouted for anyone inside to evacuate.  Valley Engine 1 arrived and initiated fire attack from the rear of the duplex.  Other units arrived and the fire was quickly extinguished.  The fire was contained to one unit and the attic. Damage is estimated at $60,000.  Both residences were unoccupied at the time and two (2) dogs were rescued.

Although the fire is under investigation it appears to have started on the rear deck.  There have been several fires this spring which have started on decks.  Please be very careful to completely extinguish any smoking materials and do not leave hot BBQs unattended.
