Wilcox Furniture owner ready for new adventure

Posted: Updated:

HERMISTON, Ore. -- After 61 years of running their family business, Wilcox Furniture has a new announcement about their closing.

Walker Furniture will be taking over all five stores in Hermiston, Pendleton and Milton-Freewater and hiring most of their 70 employees.

John Wilcox says the stores have been doing well, but  after 39 years in the furniture business he was just ready for something new,  and is getting out of the industry like his brothers Bruce and Alan.

"I'm going to miss my customers, all of our customers and our employees but it's just time to do something else. I've been working the furniture business since I was 20 years old. So time to spend the rest of my life doing something else.  I have ten grandchildren that will be top priority for me," say John Wilcox

Wilcox says the actual closing will depend on how fast the inventory goes. He expects the process to take about three months.

In the meantime, he's already moved to an area near Hood River in Oregon.
