Fever's Lillard and Whitehead to hold youth football camp

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Houston Lillard and Steven Whitehead want to use their football talents to help local kids. It is the main reason the two have teamed up to start their own football camp for kids in the Tri-Cities.

"We always talked about this area. We noticed that there wasn't too much attention given to the game of football and we always thought about what we did as kids and how we were brought up and the people that brought us up and how beneficial it was for us when we were young," Whitehead said.

The camp runs next Saturday and Sunday (April 21-22) at Pasco's Highland Park. Signup is $65. It is aimed at two age groups - kindergarten through fifth grade, and middle school and high school kids.

"The reason where I'm at today is there was a lot going on back in California. Whether it was passing league camps or just individual help or just somebody around the neighborhood who took the time out to teach us little tricks," Lillard said.

For the quarterback and wide receiver duo, the camp is not just about enhancing football skills.

"It's not also just about making it to the NFL or making it to the MLB or the NBA you know. It's about utilizing the tools that's necessary for your sport to be able to further your education and get free education in the long run," Whitehead said.

So far over 40 kids are signed up. The two are hoping to bring in several NFL players, such as Seattle Seahawks  pro-bowler Earl Thomas to help encourage more local kids to attend.

You can sign up for the camp at eliteambitions.com.
