300 Pasco High School students got hands-on experience with the latest in water testing technology this week.
Two science classes measured water quality in the Columbia River at Chiawana Park Thursday morning.
Teachers say it's a field study to find out why the salmon population has been decreasing at Priest Rapids Dam.
Students will be sharing their data with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
"It's nice to be able to be near something we can actually study and not have to travel forever to get somewhere," says Junior Sierra Linke
"It takes all the things we learned and it gives us real life experiences and shows us how it actually effects us and the community," says Junior Elizabeth Bennett.
Teachers say the large scale field study is made possible by a partnership with WSU Tri-Cities and the GEAR UP program.
