PASCO, Wash. - An exhibit opened on Tuesday at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, aiming to spread awareness about child abuse.
Members of the Sexual Assault Response Center (SARC) put up the "Little People Project" as part of their annual awareness campaign.
The project is a visual display of wooden children, representing the 509 child abuse cases investigated in Benton and Franklin Counties last year.
Brandi Ralston, the Education Outreach Coordinator for SARC had a hand in the project. She said "people like to think that it doesn't happen here, so the more awareness and education and light that we can shed on the subject, hopefully will reduce the amount of this happening."
SARC's "Clothesline Project" was also set up at CBC on Tuesday, which is a display of T-shirts decorated by abuse survivors. Both projects move to the Columbia Center Mall on Friday morning.
Throughout April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month, there are a number of projects and events going on, including an online auction, so for more information about how you can get involved, click here.
