PULLMAN, Wash. -

The defense won the day at Washington State's second scrimmage of the season on Saturday.

Quarterback Jeff Tuel was 19-of-33 with 253 yards passing and two touchdowns in the scrimmage. But the defense racked up 12 sacks on the Cougar passing attack.

All things considered, it appears the team is making big strides with each practice.

"It's night and day," said senior Andrei Lintz who had five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. "Last week it seemed like guys were hesitant because we really hadn't gone live that much or really scrimmaged. This week we just turned it loose and let it go and had fun."

"More plays – the more we play with 11 guys the better we're going to be," said Tuel. "That's what we're doing every day… and once you get a hold of it mentally, you can let it fly physically."

The Cougars' next practice is Tuesday afternoon.
