SPOKANE, Wash. - It's the day Gonzaga basketball fans have been waiting for every since their team lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last March. Gameday. The start of the new season. Tonight.
No. 12 Gonzaga opens the season Friday night with an exhibition game against Southern Oregon. It'll be their only non-counting game before they start things for real Nov. 12 against Southern University.
Friday's game tips off at 6 p.m. and can be seen live on KHQ.

The Zags return several key starters from last year's squad, including Steven Gray, Elias Harris, Robert Sacre and Demetri Goodson. Also returning is a bigger and beefier Kelly Olynyk, who put on 20 pounds during the offseason.
The Raiders from Ashland, Ore. already have one game under the belt, having lost to D-II school, Humboldt University 74-51 last Saturday. Southern Oregon is an NAIA school and a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
