What a great race. Evansville loved the noisy blower boats. The Grand Prix's brought the thunder back to Thunder on the Ohio.
Sunday morning started out with morning testing. Evansville had the 1 2/3 mile Grand Prix course and the 2 mile Unlimited course. Greg took the GP-15 Graham Trucking-Happy Go Lucky also sponsored by Pumptech and the Evansville HADI Shriners out for a run. He made one lap on the 1 2/3 mile course at 127.621 mph. The 1 2/3 mile course was not surveyed so the speed is unofficial but really fast for the GP class. He also made a lap on the 2 mile surveyed Unlimited course. Hopp Racing finally did it. Broke the 130 MPH barrier.
Greg Hopp ran 132.846 MPH on the record course breaking last year's 123.660 MPH record set by Jerry Hopp. This is an official APBA record for the APBA GP/single automotive powered hydroplane. The record was certified by Wes Patton the ABRA/APBA official score-timer of the event. It was an awesome sight with the fans "On their feet". Greg really had the yellow boat flying.
