KENNEWICK, Wash. --  As gas prices continue to climb, Many people are looking for ways to save money when they drive. Kennewick's Bill Kinney has made it a hobby to be fuel efficient.

Bill says he constantly drives his 2005 Honda Insight on long trips and regularly gets over 100 miles per gallon. He says a normal car gets 26 or 27 miles per gallon.

Bill Kinney says he has won numerous awards for his fuel efficiency. Recently, he set a record for going over 2,200 miles on one tank of gas. That is an average of 177 miles per gallon.    

Bill says for him driving efficiently is a passion as well as a money-saver.

He says, "It's such a freedom to take off on a long trip and not have to worry about money or gas."

Bill says he saves about $100 per month by driving the fuel-efficient Insight and keeping fuel economy in mind. 

Kinney says there are a couple things you can do to make your car more efficient. He says the first thing you can do is increase your car's tire pressure.

He says, "Put your tires up to the max, 44 pounds whatever it says on there. Then, you can just roll better."

Another thing he says to do is slow down and rely less on your breaks.

He says, "Drive more gently, don't be in such a hurry."

Bill says that when he goes to a grocery store he doesn't drive around but simply coasts into his spot. Just another way, he says, to get that many more miles for your money.
