YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima Valley Community College has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to redesign its Wine and Vineyard Technology Program over the next few years.
The funding comes as Washington state's wine industry grows and creates more jobs in the region.
The college plans to adjust the two-year associate's degree to meet the calendar of the wine industry. This will allow students to shadow and learn from local vineyards and wineries through externships.
Changes will also include more online teaching while still maintaining hands-on experience.
The grant began this month and runs through July 2013.
