Auto glass shop owner accused of billing scheme

Associated Press - July 30, 2010 7:05 PM ET

SEATTLE (AP) - The owner of 2 Burien auto glass companies has been charged with first-degree theft for an insurance billing scheme believed to have cost insurers more than $1.5 million.

Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler says an investigation found nearly 5,000 instances where 43-year-old Michael Alan Perkins overbilled insurers for car windows.

Perkins was charged with three counts of first-degree theft in King County Superior Court Thursday.

Kreidler says in some cases Perkins billed the companies full price for windows that came from wrecking yards.
