PULLMAN, Wash.—An STD you've probably never heard of is the number one sexually transmitted disease in the world, according to WSU Professor John Alderete.
In women, Trichomonas Vaginals can cause infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical cancer and adverse pregnancy outcomes including low birth-weights. In men, the disease can cause a fatal type of prostate cancer. And in both men and women, it can put you at a high risk for HPV, herpes and HIV.
7.4 million new cases occur each year. And about 12 million this year have already gotten the disease.
