TOUCHET, Wash;--A memorial service was held in Portland yesterday for Touchet native Katie Nolan. Everyone that attended the service said it captured perfectly the unique life that Katie Nolan led.
"It was very inspiring to hear that such a fine young woman came out of our mist of Touchet and everybody does great things but to hear stories other people shared about Katie was very inspiring," says Gary Dorman who was a teacher and friend of Katie.
Hundreds of friends and family gathered and told stories that painted a picture of who Katie was as a woman. She had volunteered in places like Nepal, Thailand and Cambodia. And most recently she helped nearly 60 homeless people in Portland find places to live.
And even though the family is grieving they can take solace knowing that Katie died doing what she loved.
"One of the comments was made during the ceremony which I thought was phenomenal was Katie has the biggest headstone in Oregon that's where she wanted to be and I think her parents have an appreciation for that," says Dorman.
