WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Police in Walla Walla say a scammer is hitting businesses in the Walla Walla area, claiming to be selling advertising space for a Walla Walla High School athletic poster.
The Communications Director for the Walla Walla School District, Mark Higgins, says a local business claims they received a call from "Melody", selling the ad space.
During the phone call with the suspected scammer, the business owner became suspicious, put the caller on hold and called Walla Walla High School. Their athletic director said their program was not involved. The business owner then asked the scammer if they had been in contact with the school. She said they had. The business owner continued to ask more questions, and the solicitor hung up.
Walla Walla Police say the victim handled the situation correctly.
