Police call in SWAT team for backup

Police responded to an assault report by a Kennewick woman, only to find out her husband was threatening to pull a weapon on police.

That's when police called for the SWAT team as backup.
They say the woman was able to leave the house but her husband, 21-year-old James Sams, would not allow her to take the children. Police say they attempted to talk with Sams. He was unresponsive but was observed as having a rifle next to him, which lead police to take the threat seriously.

"Any time that there's a weapon that's said to be used, we take it extremely seriously," Kennewick officer Matt Newton said." In this case, there was allegations of a weapon and then the officers were able to confirm that the subject did have a loaded weapon with him."

Sams was arrested early this morning. He was booked into the Benton County Jail on assault domestic violence.
