RICHLAND, Wash.-- Veterans now have more options for college, thanks to the Post-9/11 GI Bill Program.
Last year the Post-9/11 GI Bill passed Congress, creating the Y Yellow Ribbon Program, which gives qualified vets more options. It makes out-of-state, private, and graduate education more affordable. Before this, the GI Bill mainly paid for in-state undergrad tuition.
To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program, you must have served at least 36 months on active duty, or at least 30 days before being discharged for a service-related injury.
31 schools in Washington state are participating. Locally, WSU Tri-Cities, Walla Walla University, and Whitman college have put forth money, which will be matched by the VA for students to go there.
