YAKIMA, Wash - The talks of adding red light traffic cameras to Yakima are thrown out. The idea of these camera was presented to the city council a year ago, but now the council says it's not a good idea.
If red light cameras were installed on select intersections, they would watch to see if drivers were running the red lights. If caught on camera, a ticket could be issued.
The city council says they took the red light traffic cameras off their priority list for this year. They say the cameras are just not cost effective now and ever.
"It's just not practical for the city to make an investment like that right now, there is other priorities the council needs to focus on," says Randy Beehler for the City of Yakima.
One of the biggest priorities is continue to strengthen local law enforcement. The council says they would rather put more police officers on the street
