KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A well-deserved congratulations for Vista Youth Center. All members who have been a part of this group from the get-go wanted to give thanks.
"Everything is so inviting here, it's so easy going when you come in here," said Clover Hart, a member of the Vista Youth Center.
What started out with a handful of members last year, has now become a place where close to 200 come and visit regularly.
"There were maybe 10 or 15 within the first few days that it was open, it was doubling and tripling itself on a very fast basis," said Kevin Husted, current Chairman of the Board.
The number of members hasn't been the only increase. They've also grown in size.
"We originally actually only had that first section of the center when we first opened in March of last year and then we were able to, through grants and donations, open up this second section," said Husted.
Young people ages 13 to 20 make up most of the demographic. They say it's a place where they can feel safe.
But it's what they've gotten back from this group that makes a difference.
"Confidence, definitely confidence," said Hart.
"They even have a SMART program for kids who want to stop using drugs and other stuff," said Jasmine Spearman, another member of the Vista Youth Center.
