Kayleigh Perkins and UL-72 Miss Boat Electric win the Unlimited Lights hydroplane racing season opener

FIREBIRD RACEWAY, Chandler, Ariz. - Greg Hopp and Kayleigh Perkins got the season started for the Unlimited Lights going four-for-four in the first set of heats of 2008.

That set up a showdown in the final between Hopp in the UL-15 Graham Trucking/Happy Go Lucky and Perkins in the UL-72 Miss Boat Electric.  Paul Becker in the UL-14 Compuware presents Miss Critical Logic rounded out the 3 boat field for the final.

In the finals, Hopp had the lead when his boat went dead in the water.  Perkins moved into first place going into lap two and stayed on the outside.  The turns are sharp at Firebird and outside is the place to be.

Becker made a race of it, but Kayleigh was able to hold him off to take the crown for the first race of 2008.
